This tiny yet very simple knot is invaluable when working on
on a boat, and has no doubt saved many small objects from
being lost overboard. Also, when working on anything above
deck level, all tools should be fitted with a lanyard to prevent
them falling into the water or hurting someone below. It also
saves a lot of energy because the sailor doesn’t have to climb

When using the knut knot, make sure the diameter of
the rope is no less than half the size of the hole in the tool.

Bring the cord around
the tool and push the
knot through the loop.

Pull gently to withdraw
the loop, which will
then be locked in place.
