The Albright special (or Albright knot) is named after an
American fly fisherman, Jimmie Albright, and has been used
for over half a century. It’s an extremely versatile knot and
gained popularity because it was believed to be the first knot
that could be used successfully to connect lines of different
diameters, for example monofilament to braid.
Although the connection is generally firm, you should err
on the cautious side when pulling up as it has been known to overhand Knots and hItches
slip. If using the Albright special, take extra care when finishing
the knot that it is pulled up tightly, especially if you are working
with wet hands. Also make sure that the wraps lie neatly and
that they are not crossing over one another.

Next, feed the end of
the wrapping line down
through the loop so
that it lies next to its
other end.

Hold the line taut and
pull gently on all four
strands. Now let go of
the shorter of the two
pieces on each end and
finish the knot by pulling
the longer pieces tight.
