AANP: Rick Brinkman, ND, President; Rita Bettenburg, ND, Vice President; Walter Crinnion, ND, Speaker of the House of Delegates. Robert van Horlick, ND, becomes Chair of CNA until 2001.
LICENSURE, EXAMINATIONS, REGULATORY, AND LICENSING BOARDS
Founding meeting of the Canadian Federation of Naturopathic Regulators, CNA, and provincial representatives held in Canada. Founded and led by Angela Moore, ND.
North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners (NABNE) established by NPLEX. Michael Traub, ND, and Robin Moore, ND, are founders and presidents (until 2000 and 2006). In 2000, Christa Louise, MS, PhD, becomes Founding Executive Director. Founding board includes Sherry Ure, C. Brandt, Nan Dunne-Boggs. First NABNE Advisory Council meeting held. Objective administration of valid examinations and provision of information that confirms readiness of candidates to practice safely to regulatory authorities.
ACCREDITATION
NCNM is first naturopathic institution to receive CNME accreditation for its residency program.
SCNM is accredited by the CNME under presidency of Paul Mittman, ND.
ACADEMIC: INSTITUTIONS AND COUNCILS
CCNM moves to its permanent North York campus at 1255 Sheppard Avenue East in Toronto, Ontario. After extensive fundraising and renovation,
the new campus included the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, as well as refurbished onsite dorms modified to house 120 students. One full

offices for fourth year students completing their internships. CCNM celebrated its grand opening at the new site November 12 and 13, 1999, with ribbon cutting to open the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic. Purchased for $7.4 million, CCNM campus ultimately valued at $75 million by 2018.
SCNM President Paul Mittman, ND, EdD, (current), leads SCNM during a period of
growth and innovation; known for leadership in advancing naturopathic licensure, policy, and delivery to underserved populations, vision in pioneering development of integrative health
care on institutional level. Advocate for health promotion, wellness, and naturopathic principles in naturopathic curriculum. Advances naturopathic medicine’s professional formation. One of two longest standing ND presidents, and one of four naturopathic physicians in his family including Paul Mittman, ND, EdD, Laura Mittman, ND, Arie Mittman, ND, and Jillian Smithers Mittman, NMD. West Coast Naturopathic Medical College,
a for-profit school, opens in Vancouver, BC,
with first class in 2000. Shortly thereafter, the advisory board of the WCNMC Society assumes management of the school, which later re-opens as the non-profit Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in January 2001.
