Hitches
Hitches form a large family of knots and generally attach a rope to a
ring, rail, or post, although occasionally they may also join one rope
to another rope, or even to itself. Hitches that incorporate a
drawloop (such as the slipped cleat hitch) provide a quick release
when only a temporary hold is required. The half hitch and clove
hitch play a role in many different knots.
