Water knot
This knot is typically tied in the flat webbing used by climbers and mountaineers. Because of
this, it is sometimes known as a tape knot. The water knot is an overhand follow-through and is
simple to tie. Although it makes a very solid knot for webbing, it is difficult to untie after it has
been loaded.
Start by making a simple overhand in one working end (1). Take the end of the second line
through the overhand, retracing the original path in the opposite direction (2). Continue following
the original path with the second line until the overhand has been completed (3). Make sure that
all the lines are laid neatly next to each other and, if you are using webbing, that there are no folds
or twists in the knot. There should be plenty of extra line at the working ends after the knot is
completed (4).
