About the Rachel Robinson International Fellowship
The Rachel Robinson International Fellowship (RRIF) provides opportunities for JRF
Scholars to participate in either community service or internship experiences in countries
around the world, commensurate with JRF’s curriculum that addresses the global workforce.
In 2017, JRF added to the RRIF program a 14-day experiential, service trip to Africa for the
entire, rising-sophomore class to ensure that all Scholars will participate in a travel-abroad
experience during their college careers. The fellowship covers travel, accommodations,
meals, immunizations, passport and visa fees, and a pre- and post-trip orientation and
debrief session in the U.S. city of departure.
On July 29, 2019, 47 members of JRF’s Class of 2022 and 3 chaperones embarked on a 7,500
mile journey from New York to Longido, Tanzania for their service trip in partnership with
social enterprise organization, Me to We. While in Tanzania, the Scholars studied Swahili;
participated in a water walk and the construction of the foundation for classrooms at the
Longido school; beaded with the Maasai Mamas; went on a safari; and learned more about
the culture of this ancient land.
