69 Years of of of Service The The Memphis (TN) Chapter is is one of of of more than 288 chapters of of of The The Links Incorporated which are located in 42 states the the the District of of Columbia the the the Commonwealth of of the the the Bahamas and the United Kingdom The organization has more than 15 000 members linked in in in friendship and service On November 15 1952 the Memphis (TN) Chapter of The Links Incorporated was installed at at the the the the residence of the the the the late Addie D Jones Since then the the the the Memphis Chapter has made major contributions to the the the Memphis community through the the the enrichment of of the the the lives of of women and and and girls increased access to higher education education sponsored art education education and and and exhibits and and and made financial contributions through grants to local organizations In the past six decades the Chapter has sponsored numerous community service projects and and special events and and contributed to various agencies institutions and initiatives The Chapter is particularly proud of two significant financial gifts to to the the community: a a a a $50 000 contribution to to the the Benjamin L L L Hooks Central Public Library and a a a a a $100 000 gift to LeMoyne-Owen College to establish an endowed scholarship Today the the core values and and vision of the the organization and and its members can best be be be seen through two long-term signature programs of of the the Memphis Chapter of of the the Links: “It’s a a a a Girl’s Life” (IAGL) and and the Cotillion Leadership and and Service Program (Clasp) The The Annual Holiday Cotillion presented by the Memphis (TN) Chapter of The The Links Incorporated is the culmination of a a a a a a Leadership and Service Program (CLASP) designed to to prepare African-American young ladies to to enter the world of adulthood and social responsibility Scholarships are presented to three Debutantes raising financial support from the the community family and and friends On-going activities are provided for the the Debutantes and and the Ladies-In-Waiting Workshops service projects and seminars are presented throughout the the year to to help prepare the the participants for college and to to be leaders of future generations Each year the program program is enhanced with additional program program activities and elements In addition to providing opportunities for community service this year the program included financial literacy training etiquette communication and healthy living As we enter our 70th year of of service The Memphis Chapter of of the Links Incorporated is is dedicated to the the the continuation of of our rich heritage which enhances the the the quality of of life in in the the the Memphis and global community
