Player to be named Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in the same year: Fred Lynn.  e 23-year-old center  elder led the majors in slugging average (.566) and tied with Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds for most doubles (47). He led the AL in runs scored (103) and OPS (on-base percentage plus slug- ging average, .967),  nished second in batting average (.331) and extra-base hits (75), and was third in RBIs (105). In addition, he won a Gold Glove Award.

Runs driven in by Carl Yastrzemski with a sixth-inning pinch-hit home run o  Tom Seaver in the All-Star Game on July 15 in Milwaukee. It would be Yastrzemski’s only homer in 18 trips to the All-Star Game.  e NL won, 6-3.

Record of Luis Tiant in the 1975 postseason, with an ERA of 2.65. In Game One of the AL Championship Series against the Oakland Athletics, he gave up only one unearned run in a complete-game win. In Game One of the World Series against the Reds, he threw a  ve-hit shutout. In Game Four, he allowed four runs in another complete-game win. And in Game Six, he gave up six runs in seven innings (no decision).

As a 22-year-old rookie, Rice was fourth in the AL in runs scored (92) and batting average (.309), tied for  fth in RBIs (102), and  nished in the top 10 in hits (174), doubles (29), slugging average (.491), total bases (277), and extra-base hits (55).

He hit a two-run home run in the  rst inning, a three-run home run in the second inning, a triple that drove in two runs in the third inning, and a three-run home run in the ninth inning. Including a single in the eighth inning, Lynn had 16 total bases for the day. Boston won 15-1.
