Introduction & Welcome
Dear Students & Families:
The Pine-Richland High School staff is very excited to share the 2021-2022 Program of Studies! This interactive document
has been prepared to assist you in planning your comprehensive educational high school plan. Just as our “Focused on
Learning” theme maps out the district’s mission and vision visually, the program of studies will help guide you to
important information detailing curricular offerings, course selection and scheduling.
The format of the Program of Studies places emphasis on careful
planning and decision-making. In order to facilitate the importance
of planning your high school schedule, the Program of Studies
includes a Graduation Plan on page 8 and a Time Management
Planner on page 9. High School Course Pathways for core departments
are included to support the importance of careful planning and
decision-making. We understand high school course selections have
a significant impact on student success. Making appropriate choices
can be very challenging. We have also included Career Cluster information to help students understand the connection
between high school courses and future careers.
In March of 2020, education, along with many other industries, changed. The red star in the
image to the right represents the transformational shifts that occurred at Pine-Richland as a
result of COVID-19. All of us have cycled through some spirals of change. We have used the
phrase “turn challenges into opportunities” many times over the past 9 months. Pine-
Richland’s staff has done just that. We are integrating technology to a level that may have
taken us many years to reach, we are finding different ways to engage students, and we are
moving strategic initiatives forward despite logical challenges. So the question is, What should Pine-Richland’s educational
program look like post-COVID-19? A K-12 committee focused on Transition, Transformation, and Innovation has been
established and will develop ideas and solutions related to creating high quality learning experiences with added
flexibility (hybrid, virtual), offering conference options for parents (in-person, virtual), continued technology integration,
and the concept of personalized learning paths.
We encourage families to carefully review the course descriptions and prerequisites. The high school staff will work
cooperatively with each student and family through the scheduling process. As students make their scheduling
decisions, it is important to recognize the requirements for college admission and/or career placement. A close working
relationship among students, families, teachers, counselors, and administrators will help to result in appropriate course
selections.
This Program of Studies is a vital resource and will provide detailed information concerning specific courses and
programs. Students are encouraged to discuss any concerns with their teachers, counselors, and families. Careful
planning and creation of a Graduation Plan are crucial to developing a schedule each year to support the student and
be focused on learning. The interactive format provides an opportunity to view video segments highlighting various
course offerings. The Pine-Richland High School staff looks forward to working collaboratively throughout the
scheduling process to support each student.
