10. SWOT Analysis
Ancient fraternal organization which has an element of prestige, mysteries and glamour and spread
across the globe.
Creates a sense of bonding and brotherhood.
The Southern Region has the - Largest Membership; Maximum number of daughter units; Maximum number of Masonic Centres; Largest Masonic Centre (Chennai) under GLI.
Reasonable Age Profile of Members - Average Age of Membership in Southern India - 54 Yrs.
Spate of Lewis initiations during the period of report in the Region is a positive sign for our fraternity.
Assets in term of property at many stations.
WEAKNESSES
Lack of awareness of the fraternity amongst the general public.
Lack of a charitable project which projects Freemasonry cares for the needy in the eyes of the
uninitiated profanes, for example like Shriners Burn Victims Hospital for Children in USA.
Lack of decorum at banquets, young masons need to be taught the right approach in conducting Toasts
and Masonic Fires, seniors need to be role models.
Falling standards in the ritual working and apathy in this regard. Growing age profile of the members.
Less than 30% of Craft Members in Higher Orders.
Under utilization of the properties in many centres.
OPPORTUNITIES
Need to improve membership in ‘Beyond the Craft’ Orders especially with such a large captive base prevailing in Craft Membership strength. Less than 30% of our Members are in the Higher Orders.
University Lodges could be explored in Urban Masonic Centres especially University townships. Get your sons and sons-in-law into the Order.
