Page 10 - Key Considerations for Choosing a Fiber Termination Method
P. 10
Considerations for Choosing Preterminated Solutions
► Some applications are simply more suited for preterm
– 40 and 100 Gig applications use MPO/MTP connectors that are
often preterminated
– Plug and play data center backbone applications from core to aggregation switches
► Ideal for high-density, large installations
– The use of MPO-based trunks in the backbone saves pathway space
– Labor savings and faster deployment time can outweigh any material premium in high count fiber deployments
► Not cost effective in low fiber count duplex applications
► May not be suited for disaster recovery or other quick turn-around deployments due to planning
and longer lead times
► Need to ensure performance – each assembly should be serialized and traceable to factory test results for insertion loss and return loss.
