Chapter 3 - Basic Output Devices and their Functions



               What is an Output Device?

               An output device is any peripheral that receives data or information from a
               computer for display, projection or physical reproduction. E.g. Monitor, Printer,

               Speaker, Headphone, Projector, Television (TV), etc.


               Types and Functions of output Devices

               Monitor

               Monitor is the output device that displays the information on the computer to the
               user. It is also a device that converts computer output into displayed text
               characters and graphics. The monitor is also called the screen or Visual Display
               Unit. It is like a television (TV).

               Types of Monitors

                             Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)
                             Flat Panel Display

               Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitor: is a type of monitor that looks like the old
               type TV which is very heavy with a long back.

               Flat Panel Display is also known as Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).
