Marc Colin & Fils Côte de Beaune (Fra) Born in 1944, Marc Colin created his domain in the late 1970’s taking over vines from the Colin and Ponnavoy families, some owned for over a century for a total of 6 hectares in Chassagne-Montrachet & St Aubin. The estate’s vineyards will expand in the 1980s and 1990s as the reputation of the wines will grow. Three of Marc & Michèle’s children, Caroline, Joseph and Damien, now manage the domain covering 19 hectares today spread over 26 appellations. Joseph handles the viticulture while Damien vini es and handles the distribution with Caroline. This teamwork revolves around a range of fresh and juicy wines, crafted to display transparent expressions of their appellations. Decades of hard work and commitment have earned Marc Colin his deserved recognition and listings in the most demanding tables in the world. “Marc Colin’s 2014 St Aubin 1er Cru en Remilly has a very composed bouquet, the oak neatly integrated with ne cold stone/slate-like scents percolating through with time. The palate is well de ned with a ne bead of acidity, concentrated and generous with touches of tangerine and ginger toward the nish.” 92pts Wine Advocate Fontaine-Gagnard Côte de Beaune (Fra) Laurence Gagnard and Richard Fontaine founded the domain in 1985 with passion and enthusiasm; their daughter Céline joined the estate in 2007. The family has worked in the vines for several centuries, and the domain carries on this legacy-love of the “terroir” and the search for the best possible quality. Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard works on 22 different appellations, including three Grands Crus: Bâtard-Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet and the crown jewel, Le Montrachet. The estate covers 12 hectares mainly in Chassagne and the winemaking methods are traditional: hand-picking, settling, fermentation using natural yeasts, ageing in oak barrels (0 to 30% new oak, depending on the appellation), ning and light ltration. The white wines are bottled after one year of maturation; red wines stay in the barrel for up to 18 months, depending on the vintage. “Fontaine-Gagnard is a Chassagne domaine that has really upped the ante in recent vintages since Celine Fontaine has taken the reins. This was a splendid showing of wines, one of the most comprehen- sive in Chassagne” Wine Advocate Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Côte de Beaune (Fra) Pierre-Yves Colin worked at his father Marc’s estate for several years before he founded a small negociant house with his wife Caroline Mo- rey back in 2001. The rst vintage yielded only 1,700 bottles and it was only in 2005 that he left the family estate to work full time on this new project. In 2006, the rst harvest from the family vineyards he had taken over came in addition to the negociant activity. The wines are matured for 12 to 18 months in 350l oak barrels with very limited use of new oak and no lees stirring in order to preserve the transparency of the wines that made Pierre-Yves’ famous. The wines are characterized by great energy and lift proving that mi- cro-negociant structures like his can produce world-class wines under the guidance of talented winemakers such as Pierre-Yves Colin or his brothers in the family estate. “The elegant 2016 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière is one of the highlights of Pierre-Yves Colin’s Saint-Aubin range this year, exhibiting attractive aromas of crisp apple, mint, toasted nuts and struck match. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, glossy and concentrated, with nice mid-palate depth and dimension and a tangy, beautifully delineated nish.” 90pts Wine Advocate
