Family-Friendly Work Schedules
As a Region One sta employee you work 226 days out of the year. Region One ESC follows a work calendar very similar to that of the school districts that we serve. In fact, our annual work calendar is not developed until we have reviewed the calendars from our school districts to ensure that we are available to them when the district is in operation. What this means for Region One sta members is that if you have children enrolled in school, more o en than not, you will share the same holiday breaks (including major holidays, and Spring Break!). Additionally, the ESC is closed two weeks in July allowing sta members to take a well-deserved extended break. And who doesn’t enjoy that? Understanding that life circumstances may require sta members to be absent from work, in addition to a family-friendly work calendar, sta members are also a orded other types of leave. Another work perk is that with supervisor approval, employees may select to work an 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. work week with a 30-minute lunch or, if you prefer a more leisurely one-hour lunch, you can choose to work an 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. work week.
Personal Leave
Sometimes there are reasons why you have to be absent from work. As employees of Region One you are
allowed ve days of paid personal leave per school year. You don’t have to wait to accrue those days either, Personal Leave days are “credited” to you at the beginning of the year. State personal leave accumulates without limit, is transferable to other Texas schools, and generally transfers to ESCs.
Local Leave
According to your work schedule, full time employees earn ve, six or seven days of local sick leave at the rate of one-half day per month during the rst ten months of employment and one full day per each additional month of employment according to the following schedule:
• Employees in positions generally requiring 196 or 206 days of service earn ve days
• Employees in positional requiring 216 days of service earn six days
• Employees in positions generally requiring 226 days of service earn seven days
Local sick leave accumulates without limit. To earn local sick leave in any given month, the employee must have worked ten or more days in the month.
Bereavement Leave
Region One prides itself on its family-supportive culture. We are there for each other in times of joy
and celebration and in times of sorry. As such, we understand that when there is a loss in your family you need time away from work. With approval of the Executive Director or designee, an employee is granted three days without loss of pay for a death in the immediate family. In the case of a not-immediate family member (aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, rst cousin, or in-laws other than those listed above) one day may be used. Such Bereavement leave is not levied against local sick leave or personal leave. If additional days are needed apart from the permitted days, may use up to two additional days of personal or transferred state sick leave.
Jury Duty
Serving on a jury is your civic responsibility and Region One wants to support you! So, when you are called to serve for jury duty, there is no need to worry about being penalized for being away from work. With documentation of service, sta members are granted leave with pay, and without loss of accumulated leave, for jury duty or compliance with a subpoena. And yes, you are allowed to retain any compensation provided for your jury duty service!
