The end of 2017 saw some defining moments concerning Israel’s capital, Jerusalem.
When President Trump announced that he will be moving the embassy from Tel Aviv, he gave US endorsement to what we have already known....Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish State.
Not only did the United Nations pass an Arab-backed resolution condemning the decision, but the UK shamefully joined in supporting it. The UK Foreign O ice has since continued to reiterate that Jerusalem is to be a ‘shared’ capital for an Israeli and a Palestinian state.
In December CUFI UK launched a petition calling for Britain to also move its embassy. Over 26,000 of you have signed making it our largest petition to date (go to cufi.org.uk/Jerusalem to add your name). Britain’s failure to accept the ‘reality’ that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital has all kinds of implications. Not only does it position Britain on the side
of those that seek to delegitimise the Jewish State as a whole, but the UK is practicing a hypocrisy that we will be challenging in the weeks ahead. Keep your eye open for more developments on this campaign, because we have only just begun.
The Israeli Ambassador to the UN summarised the UN vote perfectly: “You can vote hundreds and hundreds of times, but you cannot change the Bible. You cannot rewrite history.”
At Christians United for Israel it is the Bible that underpins our position, even if it makes us unpopular in some circles. It is the commands and promises of God’s Word that motivate us to stand for Israel and the Jewish people. We recognise that declaring Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is not only historically accurate, but is also biblically right.
