Defend Israel at the United Nations
For Zion’s sake I will not hold My peace, And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest. Isaiah 62:1
Israel has been condemned by the United Nations more than all other countries combined.
The singling out of Israel, the world’s only Jewish state, is nothing short of anti-Semitism.
I t is fair to say that the United Nations has been a force for good in many
areas, from fighting poverty
to overcoming diseases in developing countries. One area the UN has failed miserably is in its treatment of Israel.
Some people wrongly see United Nation's resolutions as being “international law”. The truth is the UN is a committee, comprised of 193 countries, who vote on resolutions proposed by member countries. Every country has an equal vote, meaning the world’s most powerful nations have the same vote as the smallest, and the most brutal dictatorships have an equal say as free and democratic states.
The UN’s structure means that some of the most corrupt regimes are free from criticism, whilst Israel is bombarded with condemnation after condemnation, by way of UN resolutions.
Because of its anti-Israel stance, the United Nations has been described as the “epicentre of anti-Semitism”. Here is why:
The UN General Assembly (which comprises all UN
member states) voted to condemn Israel 18 times in 2019. The rest of the world received 7 condemnations in total: Crimea (2), Iran (1), North Korea (1), the US (1) and Syria (1). That means that Israel received 72% of all UNGA condemnations in 2019.
At the UN Human Rights Council, Israel is the only country that is singled out with its own agenda item, ‘Agenda Item 7’, whilst all other human rights abuses are discussed under ‘Agenda Item 4’. This means there are days when only Israel is discussed, whilst some of the worst human rights abuses are never mentioned.
In the 2019 session of the UNHRC, there were a total of 12 condemnations with 58% of them going against Israel. The countries condemned were Israel (7), North Korea (2), Iran (2) and Syria (1).
Israel, a nation with equal rights for all its citizens, is being condemned so heavily whilst the human rights abuses of countries such as Iraq, Pakistan, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, China, Cuba and many others were hardly mentioned, let alone condemned.
Israel is repeatedly condemned for alleged “crimes against humanity” whilst
real human rights atrocities around the world are being ignored, highlighting the UN’s hypocrisy.
The UK government regularly joins in the condemnation of Israel, but it is time for Britain to defend Israel at the UN.
