FIGURE OF EIGHT LOOP

               Purpose

A strong and secure all-purpose fixed loop, it will hold in the finest threads but is
also suitable for working ropes (and can be undone after use).

               Tying

Make a long bight and tie a figure of eight knot in the loop so formed (figures
1–3). Remove unsightly twisted knot parts and rearrange the layout with

crossovers at each end of the knot to streamline it when it is pulled tight (figure
               4).

               Knot lore

The older name for this knot was a Flemish loop.
