 Daniel Craig
the protests begin. An internet campaign called danielcraigisnotbond.com sprang up, and fans referred to him as James Blande. The Daily Mirror ran a page one story proclaiming, “The Name’s Bland- James Bland.” But then, Casino Royale (2006) came out, and the rave reviews began. This was sort of a remake
of the 1967 film. Todd MCarthy of Variety wrote, “Craig comes closer to the author’s original conception of this long-lived male fantasy figure than anyone since early Connery.” Steven Spielberg referred to Craig as “the perfect 21st-century Bond.”
Craig’s Bond repertoire is as follows: Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), and Spectre (2015). Then Craig said he would just as soon “slash my wrists” with a broken bottle than play Bond again. But, oh, how money talks! When queried by Stephen Colbert about playing Bond again, Craig said,
“I couldn’t be happier.” That may have something to do with his getting a paycheck of $135 million dollars for the next Bond film. So, with this upcoming 2019 Bond film, Craig’s fifth, he will be 51. He may be a bit too shaken and stirred to do it again, but he’ll certainly have enough dough to retire on.
The search is already under way for his replacement. One thing for sure...James Bond will return. L
