Employees will not be paid for days off during periods of Red Weather Alerts, should such a scenario
occur. If a Red Weather Alert is issued during the course of a normal working day, Management
reserve the right to assess the hazard and risks before issuing an instruction. In this instance you will
be paid for the hours worked up to the Management deciding to close the business premises or for
the entire day if the decision is made after 3pm.
The 3 different type of warning all depicted by colour and actions.
Yellow: Be aware. Severely bad weather is possible over the coming days
Amber: Be prepared. There is an increased likelihood of severely or extremely bad weather
Red: Take action. Extremely bad weather is expected.
Employees shall not decide to take any action including, refusing to attend work, refusing to perform
their duties while at work, leave without permission, refuse to follow instruction that serves to secure
their safety, that of fellow colleagues or company property
Employee Options
During severe weather, you have no automatic legal entitlement to remain at home on full or
reduced pay. Instead, you have the following options available to you:
Annual leave. If you’re unable to attend work, you may choose to take this time as annual leave.
Unpaid leave. An alternative is to take this time as unpaid leave. If you do this, your annual leave
allowance will remain unaltered.
Homeworking. It may be possible for you to work from home during a period of severe weather. This
will depend on the nature of your job role and the availability of computer, e-mail and Internet
access. If you wish to consider this as an option, it should be discussed with your line manager in
advance.
Notification
You are expected to telephone your manager to let the him/her know if you are going to be delayed,
or unable to attend work, you must do so at the earliest opportunity on the first day of absence. You
should also be prepared to explain what efforts you have made to get in to work. Notification by
email/text message/social media is unacceptable.
2.14 RETIREMENT

Normal retirement occurs on your 65 birthday. It is our policy for employees to retire at the end of

the week in which their 65 birthday falls. In certain circumstances consideration may be given to
fresh employment being offered to you after retirement. Such offers will be totally at the discretion
of the Directors and will be on a fixed term basis.
2.15 INTRODUCTION OF NEW WORKING PRACTICES
Our business is a highly competitive one and one where we are constantly striving to find new and
better ways of working. Change, whether initiated by market demands or by the introduction of new
technologies, will be an integral part of your employment with the Company. Your co-operation in the
change process is vital to our success. In turn, and where possible, we will make every effort to discuss
any material changes with you in advance and to minimise the degree of disruption.
