− The value of any goods or services purchased from the company but not paid for at the due
time or upon termination of the contract.
− The value of normal weekly wages due during a notice period upon termination of the
contract. This will only apply where due notice is not given to the company in the prescribed
manner and the notice period is not worked by the employee.
− Any shortfall in cash, stock or other company resources for which an employee is responsible
either individually or proportionately as part of a group of employees.
− Any repair, replacement or cleaning costs charged to the company as a result of damages or
loss caused by an employee to company property or the property of other staff or customers.
− The cost of any unauthorized personal phone calls made using company phones.
− The value of any paid holidays taken but not accrued at the time of termination.
− The cost of any uniform provided, if the employee leaves or is dismissed within the first twelve
months of employment
− Where any training has been provided and paid for by the company and the member of staff
subsequently leaves the company within 12 months of the end of training they will be required
to reimburse the company the cost of the training. Such a cost may be deducted from wages
and any balance due will be treated as a legally recovered debt to the company.
2.11.8 Notification of deductions from wages
An employee will receive seven days written notice of the deduction before it is made. This notification
will include an explanation for the deduction and itemise the exact amount to be taken.
No more than ten percent of the gross daily, weekly, or monthly wages or salary will be taken at any
one time when the employee remains in employment. Upon termination however the entire amount
due will be deducted from any outstanding monies owing to the employee. Monies may be deducted
in instalments if the total amount is more than ten per cent of any pay check.
Notice of any intention to deduct from wages will be given by the company within six months of it
becoming aware of the event which necessitates a deduction.
Deductions will not continue longer than six months after the end of the disciplinary process which
begins at the time the company first becomes aware of a "deductible event".
No deductions will be made when applicable from:-
− Pension entitlements
− Pay in lieu of notice
− Expenses claimed for work related costs.
− Benefits in kind.
− Compensation relating to an employee's loss of office.
− Redundancy pay.
− Money due to an employee in their capacity other than an employee.
− Loans or wages advanced to an employee
− Gratuities, tips or service charges.
− Trade Union membership fees
Deductions will be made when applicable from;
− Normal wages or salary.
