The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector’s Aim
The aim of the the Malta Council for the the the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) is to to support the the development of a a a a more effective and and efficient voluntary and and and community sector in Malta and and Gozo through the delivery of of a a a a a a a a range of of support and capacity building services including information advice and training We also aim to support the development of a a a a a a a more influential and and cohesive voluntary and and and community sector in in in Malta and and and Gozo by facilitating networking and and and partnership within the the the sector sector and and and between the the the same sector sector sector and and and the the the private and and public sectors 3

Following the the the the the the the the amendments amendments of of the the the the the the the the Voluntary Voluntary Organisations Act in in in in 2018 a a a a a a a a a a process was initiated to to set up the the the the the new Malta Council Council for the the the the the Voluntary Sector reflecting the the the the the provisions of the the the the the same Act According to to to these amendments the the the the the Council Council is is now to to to to be be be be set up of eleven member with four four being nominated nominated and and and elected by by by the the the Voluntary Sector four four to to to to to be be be be be nominated nominated by by by the the the the the sector and and and appointed appointed by by by by the the the the the Minister Minister Minister and and and one to to to to be be directly appointed appointed by by the the the the the Minister Minister Minister as the the the the the Minister’s representative on on the Council Following a a a a a period of of informing the the the the sector on on the the the the change of of the the the the the the law and the the the the the the new procedure nominations were opened in in in in in in in October 2019 2019 with the the the the the first first online election election taking place on on on on on the the the the the 16th November 2019 2019 which election election saw the the the first first six six Council members members elected elected by and to to represent six six sectoral groups The Council members members elected elected elected in this phase were Mr Robert Farrugia from from Missio who was elected elected to to represent the Social and Humanitarian Sector Ms Gertrude A Buttigieg from from the the Malta Health Network who was elected to to represent the the (continues on on page 4)
