In the morning, departure for Stresa, a delightful health resort, full of villas and luxuriant gardens. Boat trip to the Borromean Islands, lying in the centre of LakeMaggiore,infrontofStresa.Theislandsof this tiny archipelago are jewels of natural beauty en- hanced by splendid gardens and beautiful villas: the
Isola Bella, with its beautiful Palazzo Borromeo, the Isola dei Pescatori and the Isola Madre. Return to the hotel to have lunch. In the afternoon, excursion to Lake Orta, delightfully set among the foothills of the Alps. Visit of Orta San Giulio, the main lake holiday- place, where elegant wrought-iron balconies charac- terising beautiful old houses, look onto picturesque alleyways. Boat trip to the picturesque San Giulio Island, which was said to have been liberated from snakes and monsters by the 4th century Christian preacher Julius, who founded the Basilica. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
