The Lakes And The Lagoon
Day 3 - Sirmione (Lake Garda)/Verona/Mestre*
After breakfast, departure for Sirmione, a nice resort on
Lake Garda, well-known as a spa. Visit of the Castello
Scaligero. On the rocky tip of the peninsula there are the
remains of a Roman villa; this attractive excavation site is known as Grottoes of Catullo. Lunch at restaurant, then
proceed to Verona, well-known for being the setting of
Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy. Sightseeing tour of the city centre, with the fashionable Piazza Bra and the Roman Arena, and departure for Mestre. Arrival in the late after- noon. Accommodation, dinner and overnight.
Day 4 - Venice
In the morning, full day excursion to Venice. Trans- fer by small steamer to the centre of the city, along the Canal Grande. Venice, the enchanting city well- known for its “gondolas”, shows many beautiful buildings and masterpieces marking the meeting of the East and the West. Stop at Piazza San Marco, opening on the Canal Grande through the delightful Piazzetta. Visit of the Basilica di San Marco and of Palazzo dei Dogi. Lunch at restaurant. In the after- noon, walking tour to the Palazzo delle Prigioni and the Ponte dei Sospiri. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 - The Lagoon: Murano, Burano and Torcello After breakfast, excursion by boat to the lagoon islands.
First stop at Murano, a great glass-making centre. The
city comprises a myriad of small islands connected by bridges. Visit to a Venetian glassworks, then proceed to Burano, the village known for its lace-making andits waterwaysfringedwithbrightly-paintedhouses. Lunch
at restaurant, then departure for Torcello, boasting the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the oldest building in the lagoon, decorated with Byzantine mosaics. Return to the hotel. Dinner andovernight.
Day 6 - Venice
After breakfast, departure from the hotel. End of our services.
