THE GIFT OF GIVING: EMBRACING HOSPITALITY FOR ALL
"Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some people have shown hospitality
to angels without knowing it." - Hebrews 13:2 (NIV)
As we approach the end of the year and the holiday season, my heart is filled with anticipation
and gratitude. It is a time when we reflect on the gift of giving and the importance of being in
community. In this season, let us consider the theme of hospitality and how it can be a powerful
way to demonstrate the love and grace of Christ.
I recently came across a book called "The Gospel Comes with a House Key" by Rosaria Butterfield that deeply resonated
with me. It reminded me that hospitality is not just about inviting friends and family into our homes, but also about
extending a warm welcome to strangers, even those who may seem different or hold opposing views.
Living in a small town, it's easy to surround ourselves with people who think like us or share similar values. But as followers
of Christ, we are called to go beyond our comfort zones and reach out to those who may not share our worldview. Jesus
Himself exemplified this radical form of hospitality throughout His ministry. He welcomed the outcasts, ate with tax
collectors and sinners, and showed love to those considered unworthy by society.
Hospitality is not about changing someone's beliefs or convincing them to agree with us. It's about creating a space where
people can be seen, heard, and valued for who they are. It's about extending kindness, engaging in genuine, curious
conversations, and offering a warm embrace to those around us.
This holiday season, I want to challenge myself and our small town residents to open our hearts and homes to others. Let's
invite our neighbors, acquaintances, and even those who may seem like competitors or adversaries into our lives. By
practicing hospitality, we can embody the message of Christ in a tangible way.
I believe that by extending hospitality, we create opportunities for genuine relationships to flourish. When we invite others
into our lives, we offer them a glimpse of the love and grace of Christ. We have the chance to listen, learn, and grow
     together, fostering understanding and empathy.
As we embark on this journey of hospitality, let's remember that it doesn't have to be extravagant or costly. Simple acts of
kindness and a genuine willingness to connect can have a profound impact on someone's life. It's about demonstrating the
unconditional love that Christ has shown us.
In extending hospitality, we not only bless others but also experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from living out our
faith authentically. As we open our hearts and homes, we may discover deeper relationships, gain new perspectives, and
develop a richer understanding of God's love.
This holiday season, I encourage you to make a conscious effort to reflect on the gift of giving and embrace the power of
hospitality. May our community be known for its warmth, love, and acceptance of all. Together, let's extend hospitality to
everyone, regardless of their beliefs or backgrounds, just as Christ has done for us.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the gift of giving and the opportunity to extend hospitality to others. As we
approach this holiday season, help us break down barriers and reach out to those who may seem different from us. Fill our
hearts with love and grace as we open our homes and lives to those around us. Guide us in demonstrating Your
unconditional love through acts of kindness and genuine relationships. May this holiday season be a time when we come
together in community, united by the common goal of extending hospitality to all. In Jesus' name, Amen.
