U9 CENTRE HASTINGS GRIZZLIES - SILVER STICK FINALISTS
The Centre Hastings Grizzlies U9 MD team headed west on March 15-17 to participate in the Regional Silver Stick
      Championship in Ayr, Ontario.
The Grizzlies took on some tough competition in round robin play finishing with 2 wins and 1 loss. In a 24 team
tournament, a lot of teams ended with 4 points – now percentages; goals for; goals against; goal differential; these are all
terms our coaching staff worked tirelessly to figure out to see if we would be advancing to the quarter finals. At 2:00 pm
on Saturday it was confirmed that we had secured 8th PLACE and we would be taking on the FIRST PLACED team in the
tournament – none other than the East Elgin Attack, the very same team we had lost to in round robin.
Quarter-Final - Grizzlies vs. East Elgin Attack - 4-3 Final in Overtime
Our U9 Grizzlies were not intimidated, they were motivated by the previous loss and wanted redemption. The Grizzlies
came out strong with an offensive force taking the early lead. East Elgin Attack fought back, with end to end action, the
game ended in a tie sending us into OVERTIME.
The atmosphere was electric, all families were on the edge of their seats cheering on their teams with horns blaring,
parents cheering, many pacing when the referee called a penalty - awarding the East Elgin Attack a PENALTY SHOT in
OVERTIME. Many thought our fate was sealed, but the player shot wide. The Grizzlies took advantage and with a shot
from the point we scored to finish the game with a 4-3 victory.
      Semi-Final - Grizzlies vs. Tilsonburg Tornadoes – 7-3 Final
The Grizzlies came out strong and took the early lead and never looked back. The score ended 7-3 but was not a true
reflection of the game. It was end to end action, with opportunities going both ways, but a total TEAM EFFORT from our
GRIZZLIES had us heading into the FINALS.
Final – Grizzlies vs. Delhi Rockets – 2-3 OVERTIME LOSS
Here we go - here we go - the atmosphere was electric. The Delhi Rockets came out strong scoring first to take the early
lead. Our Grizzlies never gave up, they kept fighting, with great defensive plays and a determined offence, we scored to
tie the game late in the third sending us into another OVERTIME. Our Grizzlies fought hard and continued to pressure,
but the luck of the Irish was with the Delhi Rockets for the win.
Our Centre Hastings Grizzlies U9 Team played with heart, determination and the spirit of true warriors. Placing second in
a tournament with 24 Teams from across Ontario is a huge accomplishment and you should all be very proud. This is
definitely a tournament we will never forget! CONGRATULATIONS!
