The next morning we had breakfast together and there was still no talk of money, because after a weekend in Abu Dhabi they had full wallets and rings with precious stones on their slim fingers. Performance and reward in equilibrium - more balanced as in most marriages was my derisive thought. Later we often met, always starting with a dinner at Blake’s. The barman knew us, he called himself Ricchio and I inspired him to create my own cocktail, named after my yacht Hullabaloo.
2 parts vodka, 1 part Bols kirsch, 3 parts cranberry juice and crushed ice.
It became a cult drink and I would not be surprised if it still could be found on the bar menu nowadays. Later George rented a house in Hammersmith where we spent New Years’ Eve and New Year’s Day with the same outfit, three unusual days between bed good food, opium and booze. Relaxation on all sides. We were not petty and of course we sometimes paid a goodly obolus. George always paid in cash, as I learned later - from allowances that were given to him as a company expense advance by his employer Frank Power Ltd; without him having ever the slightest intention of paying them back. After all, Klaus Friedrich Weyrauch was involved in the brokerage firm.
So I did not bother my head about that, particularly as I knew that Klaus Friedrich had opened an oyster bar in Piccadilly Circus together with the CEO of Frank Power; that was on the way to become a gigantic flop and money dump. Compared with that our generous „allowances“ for a balanced sex life were really peanuts. On top I had become the biggest „producer“ of the Weyrauch firm, so I had the right to claim privileges. Klaus Friedrich never spoke a word about the accounts, if they were at all handed in, which is seldom. The money was missing from the cash in hand, and check-ups by the financial department of the firm were rare, as all the directors were big spenders. Those were relaxing times in London - nobody seemed to care as long the business came flowing in. I always travelled to London with a briefcase of business submissions, which I had previously picked up predominantly in Greece, and placed the risks with a group of brokers that out did each other in entertaining me. I also successfully took care of the Re-Insurance contracts of Hermes and Agios. I was in demand - I say in all the appropriate modesty.
