Later I stroke up a friendship with the painter and sculptor Theo Tobiasse, who was a local celebrity, and I often visited his atelier. Tobiasse was an uncommunicative man - a Jew from Latvia - but we understood each other. Tobias’s artistic work was concerned with religious themes and eroticism, a strange mixture, strong in expression and unique. His future works he always wrote in text before beginning the artwork. I acquired from him his favorite picture, "L'esprit de la temtation passe par la Thora" – a broad canvassed oil painting in blue tones showing a self-confident, full-breasted woman (who could be seen in the category of a concubine);
