"So, you're the specialist for financial lines in CSB, they told me. "Who told you that?"
"The Duck, the MD"
He answered with a chuckle, when mentioning my MD's name.
"You are German, I was told"
"That is so"
I said.
"Well than I guess our father's were on different sides during WW II. My father served in the US Marine corps, fought in the Guadalcanal battle against the Japs - it was hell he told me. What has your father been doing?
"Well,
I said,
"He was in the Waffen SS - Tank corps, but this was at the end of the war, the Germans last attempt - Battle of the Bulge, you know."
Douglas rose his eyebrows with respect. The Battle of the Bulge was the last major German Offensive against the allied forces in the Ardennes, lead by SS Tank divisions. There the American forces bore the brunt of the attack and incurred their highest casualties for any operation during the war.
"My father was only nineteen - a tank commander"
"Wow"
Douglas said.
"Have you been in the army?"
I denied"
"Well I served in the Marine Corps and was assigned to go to Vietnam, but it was too late - the war was over by the time, I was to be shipped out."
We dropped the subject. Then Douglas said:
"Tomorrow morning I am going to introduce a subject to you, that you probably do not know much about, but it is fascinating and I give you some leads. I need some overseas Markets and you can earn some laurels - there is a lot of money in it - guess that would suit you."
He said with a clandestine look.
