P. 2

  A Welcoming Message
Isincerely hope that this end-of-year
site publication finds you well in these strangest of times. Although many aspects of 2020 are likely to be put in the “file and forget” folder, once more in 2020 we have seen demonstration of the resilience and commitment of our DePuy Cork Campus
in battling through change and uncertainty and delivering our Credo commitments, as has been our legacy over the last 23 years.
While to some extent we have been consumed by COVID-19 at a national and international level and in the way that it has affected our work life in DePuy, it’s very important to recognize that our campus
has continued to grow and evolve over that period, delivering strong performance and improving our patients lives on a daily basis.
One aspect that has largely gone un-noticed this year is that DePuy Synthes have recently celebrated 125 years in operation, and it’s worth remembering that as a campus we have contributed significantly to
the company’s successes in the last three decades, where we have positively changed the lives of over 1 million Attune Knee patients around the world. This is an important milestone in our Attune Knee Journey. This has been realized through the hard work and ownership of all our colleagues who have helped to deliver this fantastic achievement.
Looking to the future, there has been tremendous commitment to support our growth throughout this year which will help DePuy to expand further into new market areas with products such as Cementless knees, Pinnacle Dual Mobility, Emphasys Hip platform and Global Shoulder, as well as the further development of our coating processes such as HA coating.
Our 2020 journey has been dominated by the
global pandemic and how we have navigated our journey through that landscape, ensuring that our patients are served whilst as a site demonstrating our manufacturing flexibility. The journey through 2020 has not been without its challenges, where demand for our products had been impacted by over 20% due to the global pandemic, and July and August were particularly difficult for the manufacturing unit. This drop resulted in significant financial challenges for the campus, however as we work through Quarter 4 its reassuring to see demand returning closer to normal levels.
So, although our
lives during the last
9 months has been
very different in many
ways, as we look at
the year in review,
we should feel pride,
trust and confidence
in a bright future for
the Cork Site.
Our quality
and supply
performances
have ensured
that our patients have been well served this year,
and once we sustain that performance, we will be able to contend with everything else. Our financial performance has been an issue, so 2021 will be our opportunity to recover strongly.
Our CSR performance in very challenging situations has been commendable and St Paul’s school
have been overwhelmed by the support that
they received from us throughout the Spring and Summer. It’s important that we never overlook our Credo responsibility with regard to our community responsibilities, and I want to commend all the ERG teams who have continued to work tirelessly to connect and make a difference in our community. The journey ahead remains unclear, particularly
in the social sense, and I would like to remind all
our colleagues of the resources that are at your fingertips, and in particular the Employee Assistance Program which is there to be used to help us through difficult personal times. In my experience, the need for this personal and private support has never been more important, so please ensure that you are aware of and use these resources as necessary.
As mentioned earlier, we can be proud of the fact that we work for a great company which is at the leading edge of developing a vaccine to fight the disease which has impacted our society to such a degree & bringing light to the end of that tunnel.
Finally, I’d like to take the opportunity to wish you and your families a happy and restful Christmas and a healthy, safe and prosperous New Year.
 Sincerely,
 Plant Manager
