On June 20, Chicago Police Officers put their duty belts aside and business supporters powered down their computers for a day of fun and fundraising on the golf course to support the Lodge 7 Family Auxiliary.
The FOP Family Auxiliary Ken Hauser Retired Pension Fund Trustee Golf Outing has become an annual tradition to raise money for scholarships that benefit the children of CPD offi- cers. More than 190 FOP members and officers returned for the seventh annual tournament at Bloomingdale Golf Club. The shotgun start initiated some friendly competition followed by the highly anticipated pig roast dinner and raffle giveaway that included sets of golf clubs, restaurant gift certificates and sport- ing event tickets.
President Angie Haynes has made it her mission to provide aide to all CPD officers since she founded the FOP Family Auxil- iary in 1991 with the slogan, “Never let them walk alone.” Since then, she and her team have worked hard to organize events and provide resources that benefit Lodge 7 members and their families.
“This is really to remember all police officers,” Haynes stat- ed. “It’ hard to be a police officer’s family, and we want to show them that we are all in the same shoes. We’re in this together.”
In 2001, the Family Auxiliary partnered with retired Pension Fund Trustee Ken Hauser, to organize the golf outing to have a larger impact on the children of law enforcement through more scholarship donations. This year, the golf outing raised enough money to distribute more than a dozen scholarships of $500 each. d
