CPD Enforcers play for the championship
DEFEATED CONTINUED FROM PAGE 37
“You’re the superheroes out here,” Price said. “There was so much heart in this game...because no one gave up.”
NYPD Coach Kevin Shanahan praised the Enforcers for giv- ing it their all and encouraged CPD to stay safe.
“I want to see all of you out by us next year,” noted Shanahan, forecasting that next year’s championship game will be played on the East Coast.
Curry echoed the thought by saying, “We look forward to see- ing you again next year.”
Part of Curry wishes the 2019 season had already come true. The exhilaration and excitement of being part of this team has clearly motivated his players.
“We had guys working until two in the morning; they got some sleep and came to the game. Their level of dedication in life in general is what’s inspiring to me,” added Curry, an officer in the 7th District.
Of course, what took place on the field on this day goes be- yond the game. A terrific season raises the Enforcers’ profile in the NPSFL and creates more opportunities to use football as a vehicle to benefit the program’s charities, which include the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, the Chaplain’s Association and a women’s shelter.
“I think it puts us on a bigger stage, not just for ourselves, but for our charities and what we’re trying to accomplish off the
field – all those little things we try to do to make other people’s lives better,” Curry declared. “If we could just get a little more exposure to help us support our charities, that’s all we’re looking for.”d
