Children of all ages set their sights on Lodge 7 on March 10 eager to find a few of the 2,000 pastel eggs filled with candy to stock Easter baskets.
For the past 23 years, FOP Family Auxiliary President Angie Haynes has scheduled a Lunch with the Easter Bunny at FOP Hall for members and families to celebrate the holiday with each other.
“We always want to help the police officers that can’t get off on the holidays spend time with their children,” Haynes said.
The event has become so popular that officers who were bringing their children once upon a time are now bringing their grandchildren.
“All the kids have such a great time. They love to search for the eggs and show off their baskets,” Haynes added.
Boys and girls snacked on hot dogs and homemade cookies before sorting through a goodie bag full of choco- late, coloring books and a pair of bunny sunglasses while waiting to get their faces painted by Family Auxiliary Trustee Jackie Robinson.
Each child was presented with a raffle ticket to win Toys “R” Us prizes purchased by the Family Auxiliary with

hopes to win the grand prize: a shiny black and red bicy- cle perfect for summer riding.
The Family Auxiliary also awarded seven children of Lodge 7 members with $500 scholarships to go toward their future education.
Lodge 7 member Joseph Oskzarek accepted two schol- arships on behalf of his daughters Rita and Victoria; Tim- othy Clancy for his son Timothy Jr.; Paul White for his son Zachary; Jermaine Harris for his daughter Jaylen; Antho- ny Trapalis for his daughter Brielle and Stephen Sichter for his son Edward.
The Family Auxiliary is also gearing up for its biggest fundraiser of the year, the 7th Annual Golf Outing on June 22 at Bloomingdale Golf Course. Members can purchase a ticket, which includes drink vouchers, lunch and a pig roast dinner with an open bar.
“A lot of officers say it’s the best golf outing and they come faithfully,” said Haynes, noting that last year’s event hosted more than 200 golfers. “No one goes home hungry or thirsty. We’re hoping for an even bigger turnout than last year.”
