Chicago Police Officers stand up to child abuse
From planting flowers to making pinwheels to distributing resources, there is no end to what Chicago Police Officers will do to raise awareness about child abuse.
During National Child Abuse Prevention Month, officers worked with students, day care centers and each other to rec- ognize the importance of communities working together to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect.
8th District officers turned ordinary pots into colorful ones by painting with students on April 10. Officers guided students to plant vivid white and yellow flowers with soil into their custom pots. For the finishing touch, students added a blue pinwheel to their works of art to represent the national symbol for child abuse prevention.
In another representation of the symbol, 15th District officers collaborated with child day care centers in Austin to make blue
pinwheels on April 12.
10th District CAPS officers set up their community policing
tents decorated with infographics, pinwheels and pamphlets of resources to distribute to the public during three informational sessions on April 7 at the Toman Library.
On April 9, 10th District officers were joined by the 12th Dis- trict at the Little Village Library and Douglass Library to educate the community about recognizing and preventing child abuse, as well as sexual assault.
To reach a larger audience, 17th District community policing and community safety team officers were at the 30th Ward Al- derman and 8th District Cook County Commissioner’s Shred-A- Thon on April 10. They distributed family safety and child abuse awareness information packets and goody bags of resources from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., until supplies ran out.
