Scholarships added for sons of first responders, Catholic school employees
Saint Patrick High School has established two new scholarships that will reward the families of Chicago- land’s first responders and Catholic school employees, beginning in the 2017-2018 school year for the Class of 2021.
Both the Catholic Identity Scholarship and the First Re- sponders Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $8,000 ($2,000 annually), and will be given to each and ev- ery student who meets the criteria and takes the school’s placement exam on Jan. 14, 2017.
“First responders and Catholic school employees do such great things for this community, inside and out- side of the classroom,” President Dr. Joe Schmidt said. “It’s time we show our appreciation for their hard work and dedication by making our school more affordable for families who decide their sons deserve a Saint Patrick ed- ucation.”
The Catholic Identity Scholarship will be open to all Catholic school employees and is not strictly reserved for teachers. This scholarship aims to help these parents af- ford the rising cost of a Catholic education.
“These families believe in the Catholic mission and want their children to receive a faith-based education,”
Admissions Director Brian O’Connor said. “Oftentimes, though, they have to opt for public high school because they cannot afford private high school tuition. Our schol- arship will help ease some of the financial uncertainty and show families that we care and are here to help.”
The First Responders Scholarship is open to the sons of Police Officers, firefighters and paramedics. Michael Fab- rizio, Associate Director of Admissions and the son of a fireman himself, said he is proud to launch a scholarship that will continue to make Saint Patrick an affordable op- tion for middle-income families.
“We wanted these families to know that we appreciate all that they do for our community,” he said. “These types of families are all about giving back and service, just like we are at Saint Patrick. This creates a common bond and really makes our school a special place.”
These new scholarships come as an addition to the va- riety of academic and legacy scholarships already offered by Saint Patrick. To learn more about scholarship op- portunities, or to receive information about the school, please contact Brian O’Connor at 773-205-3770 or bocon- nor@stpatrick.org. d
