17th District helps
seniors get in the
holiday spirit
There was food, fun and fanfare on Nov. 29, when more than 70 seniors gathered to celebrate the season at the 17th District Senior Subcommittee’s holiday party.
The event took place at La Villa Banquets and included a visit from Santa, accordion music and raffles. Officers Anna Grassi and Mary Jane Parks have hosted this annual event for seniors 10 years in a row. The district’s senior committee is the City’s largest.
“The seniors enjoy the event every year,” Grassi said. “It gets them out and they get a chance to socialize, eat good food, listen to good music and possibly take home a raffle prize.”
This year, 39th Ward Alderman Marge Laurino honored one of the seniors for his work in the community with a res- olution written by the Chicago City Council.
Other senior programs arranged by Grassi and Parks in- clude picnics and outings to musicals, museums, botanical gardens and river tours.
“Members attend meetings monthly for a cup of coffee, as well as to learn about educational topics like crime pre- vention, changes to Medicare coverage and financial is- sues,” Grassi said.
