like, ‘Hey, look, some things are hard but there’s always a different outcome,’” Ste- fany explained. “You know? ‘It’s a rainy day, but tomorrow’s sunny.’”
Ziola never anticipated her daughters wanting to join the CPD. But apparent- ly, she did what many female Chicago Police Officers have learned to do to be successful — lead by example.
“I was surprised, because I never talk- ed about it with the girls,” Ziola recount- ed. “I never even thought they had an in- terest, but I was very proud, too, for them to follow my footsteps — and because it is a good job.”
But Ziola knew this new journey would not come without difficult and even dan- gerous circumstances that her daughters would experience for themselves.
“Over the years, I’ve worried more just because of some of the problems that police officers have been going through,” Ziola admitted. “I’ve worried for their safety more, not for their men- tality per se, because they are both very strong-headed and very independent.”
