On June 2, 2020, at the location of 11436 S. Champlain Ave., officers responded to an Info for the Police call. Once on scene, the responding officers and their sergeant met with the homeowner, who informed them that he had found two suspicious pipe-style bombs with an unknown substance leaking out. The responding officers detected the smell of possible diesel fuel as well. The officers and their sergeant formulated and coordinated a plan to evacuate area resi-
dents who were in possible harm’s way. The officers and their sergeant requested assisting units to set up a safe perimeter while the bomb squad made the pipe bombs safe and removed them from the area. This was truly a PCI (positive community interaction).
It is with great appreciation that FOP Chicago Lodge #7 presents the Life Saving Award to Officers Archer and Hill and Sergeant Furno.
