3rd District officers
play chess against
violence
Officers from the 3rd District participated in Chess Moves against Violence to help support their community. The season ended on Oct. 7, marking its third anniversary in Chicago. The event was created by Not Before My Parents (NBMP) to offer support and coping skills to parents and youth who have suf- fered loss.
Twice as nice: Finest repeat as champs
The CPD Finest hit the road to Texas for October’s Police and Fire World Series and, for the second year in a row, didn’t come back empty-handed.
An 8-3 win over the New York police team to close out a hard- fought championship series sealed the Finest’s second title in as many years. After a drop-third strike ended things, Finest players modestly jogged toward the mound for a subdued cel- ebration that included Manager Vince Macias getting hit with a water dump.
“It was another great experience,” Macias said.
Key performers for the Finest during the tournament includ- ed David Matthews, who hit .551 with 18 RBIs, and William Munoz, who dazzled on the mound with two wins and a 1.00 earned run average over 14 innings of work.
