Pups and parole in the 14th District
Paw prints filled the 14th District lobby on Feb. 29 as offi- cers opened the doors to families and their pets for its first ever Dog Wellness Fair. The event, which was first held in the 11th District, gave low income families the opportunity to re- ceive free care for their dogs including checkups, nail trim- mings and even microchip implanting.
“It was nice to give families the chance to provide care for their dogs that they might not otherwise be able to afford,” shared Officer Linda Rosales who was among the many 14th District CAPS officers who participated in the community event.
The idea to host the first Dog Wellness Fair in the 14th Dis- trict came from Lieutenant Dany Helwink-Masters, who, af- ter transferring from the 11th District, made it her mission to continue this uplifting and fur-friendly event.
The 14th District partnered with the Anti-Cruelty Society where animal caregivers volunteered their services to a day of giving back to families and the dogs they love. The Dog Well- ness Fair also offered dog owners the opportunity to set up appointments to get their dogs spayed or neutered without cost.
“It was busy pretty much all day with people coming in,” insisted Rosales. “We liked spending the day with the animals and getting to know the community.”
Between caring for family dogs and giving officers the chance to spend time with the community and their pets, the 14th District proved that the Dog Wellness Fair is a win-win for everyone involved and hopes to continue it in the future.
3rd District plays for a cause
Officers from the 3rd District held a Chess Moves Against Violence event the evening of March 4 for children in the community. The program invited children to learn the ins and outs of playing chess while simultaneously being taught about conflict resolution from the CPD officers who patrol their neighborhoods.
