Remembering a hero three years later
On the third anniversary of Officer Samuel Jimenez’s death, a memorial roll call honored his service and sacrifice.
Fellow officers, the Jimenez family and others gathered at XS Tennis on South State Street to remember Jimenez, who had spent just 18 months on the job before dying in the line of duty while responding to a shooting at Mercy Hospital.
Jimenez, a member of the 2nd District, is credited with pro- tecting others at the hospital when a man with a gun opened fire in what started as a domestic dispute.
