Make no mistake, the Chicago FOP is not giving money away. Candidates who earned the endorsement and the contribution did so with an attribute that proved be a common denominator.
“Genuineness,” Merck stated. “Some of them are very pol- ished. They could sell you the Brooklyn Bridge and you would buy it. But what set the candidates that we endorsed apart was being very, very genuine and trustworthy.”
Endorsement reinforcement
The Lodge made a definitive “we’re not gonna take it any- more” statement with its endorsement of Muehlfelder in the Il- linois House District 19, which encompasses the Jefferson Park neighborhood that is home to many Chicago Police Officers. Robert Martwick had been the state rep until 2019, when he was appointed to fill a vacant State Senate seat in District 10. Com- mitteemen made a backroom deal to appoint Lindsay LaPointe to take Martwick’s place, and she has been nothing short of an- ti-police.
“No way I’m going to let her run unopposed,” said Muehl- felder, who has been on for 14 years and works in Area 5. “Given the climate in the country and the city, the last thing we need is to have another anti-police voice in place.”
Muehlfelder wants to be a loud voice. Locally, he would like to replicate what Republican Alderman Anthony Napolitano, a former Chicago Police Officer, has accomplished in represent- ing first responders. In Springfield, he wants to stand up and call out legislators who are making backdoor attempts to break union protections for police officers.
“You will hear me. That’s the whole idea,” Muehlfelder vowed. “If one voice can become two voices and then three voices, we can bring enough credibility so they can’t run roughshod over us with the false narrative.”
Fricilone has shown what a relentless voice advocating for law
Mike Fricilone wants to bring his well-documented support for law en- forcement to serve in the U.S. House, where he plans to be a strong voice for funding the police.
enforcement can do. The Lodge’s choice to succeed Dan Lip- inski in the 3rd Congressional District that includes the South- west Side of the city and stretches to Will County, Fricilone has helped secure funding to build a new 9-1-1 center, a new SWAT facility and upgrade the police fleet in Will County.
The FOP wants to invest in candidates like Fricilone, who has a record of bringing forces together for the betterment of public safety. He has seen what happens when the community comes together to help police officers catch the bad guys.
“My attitude is, whatever those guys need, we will get them,” added Fricilone, who has had success procuring federal grants for his constituents while serving on the Will County board since 2012. “My goal is to present the values of the community and bring as many dollars back for infrastructure as possible. Let’s move legislation forward by working together.”
