As they often do, Chicago Police officers found numerous ways to connect with their brothers and sisters in law enforcement, as well as the citizens they protect and serve. Whether they were helping kids learn to cook, playing basketball for a good cause or welcoming with open arms a young man who ap- preciates the police, Chicago’s finest had a busy month.
Liam Bates, a 10-year-old from Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, stopped by CPD headquarters in March as part of a two-day trip to deliver his custom-mint- ed Challenge Coins to Chicago Police Officers. In addition to meeting sever- al officers around the City, Liam enjoyed some pizza at Gino’s East and went to a Blackhawks game. For nearly a year, Liam and his father have been on a mission to personally gift the coins to as many police officers as possible. So far, they’ve handed out approximately 1,000 coins
Members of the CPD Pipes and Drums went north of the border into Cana- da on St. Patrick’s Day to celebrate and play alongside their peers, including the Boston Gaelic Column of Pipes and Drums.
