On Sept. 2, 2018, officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress at 43 W. 61st St. Upon arrival, they discovered a bro- ken-in back door. Upon a search of the premises, they discov- ered a person lying on the ground, bleeding profusely from his right arm. The officers discovered it was a severe wound that had cut his artery.
The officers immediately treated the wound by applying a tourniquet and putting pressure on the wound. All during this time, the person (now known to be the offender) was strug- gling with the officers and screaming, “Let me die!” When the ambulance arrived, the officers assisted the offender into the ambulance because he still was struggling to leave. The sub- ject was transported to Christ Hospital, where the medical personnel stated that the subject would have died without the officers’ quick response.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge #7 presents these officers with the Life Saving Award.
