Families of Chicago’s fallen show their strength during Police Week tributes

Eleven-month-old Tess Gary put her hand on her father Conrad’s name inscribed on the wall at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial; one small gesture to daddy and one giant tribute to a hero. Julian Jimenez clung to his mother as they heard Samuel’s name called at the Candlelight Vigil during National Police Week.
Grace Bauer placed pictures of her dad, Paul, by his name on the Memorial wall. Becca Marmolejo showed her little sisters, Sophie and Maddie, their dad Eduardo’s name inscribed on the wall right next to Conrad Gary, where their mother said he would want it.
And Erin Bauer, Crystal Jimenez, Kelly Gary and Maria Marmolejo stood shoulder to shoulder as Superintendent Eddie Johnson commemorated their husbands’ sac- rifices during an intimate ceremony at the National Peace Officers Memorial Service.
