Commander Bauer
 Honoring
Bauer fans include the Blackhawks
Teams remembers commander with special tribute
For all the talk about how much Paul Bauer loved the White Sox, as is the religion in his Bridgeport neighborhood, the com- mander had equal passion for the Blackhawks.
According to his charges in the Mounted Unit, Command- er Bauer recalled leading the unit’s crowd control detail at the Stanley Cup celebration parades as some of his fond memories on the job. And the Blackhawks apparently knew how much he revered them.
Among all the people standing in line for the visitation on Feb. 16, a little buzz spread when three athletic-looking men in suits emerged from the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Without any fanfare, at least three of the team’s best-known players – Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Patrick Sharp – at- tended Bauer’s visitation the night before his funeral. The play- ers quietly exited the church and then waited on the street for a few moments before being led to a waiting vehicle. Superstar Patrick Kane also attended the wake and the funeral.
As a team, the Blackhawks offered a special honor to Bauer with a moment of silence before its Feb. 15 game against the Anaheim Ducks and by hanging a No. 18 jersey bearing Bauer’s name in a locker in the team’s dressing room prior to their game against the Washington Capitals on Feb. 17. d
