Competent money management in trying times
As the elected treasurer, it was brought to my atten- tion that a new investment account had been formed with Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. Ensuring that FOP had the right investment team to navigate our portfolio in a prudent manner quickly became a priority task. The 990 Investment Committee, with myself as chairperson, met with Morgan Stanley to discuss the future of the FOP investment account.
It was unanimously determined by the 990 Invest- ment Committee that any major decisions moving forward must be evaluated with caution during these uncertain times. Moreover, the committee agreed to allow Morgan Stanley to continue day-to-day operational management of our Lodge 7 investment account. This partnership with the Morgan Stanley Wealth Management team since its inception in November 2019 through December 2021 has generated investment earnings
of 14.5 percent.
What does this healthy return on investment mean for our
membership? Our FOP investment account is needed to provide additional financial security during trying times. Obviously, mar- ket conditions have fluctuated during the global pandemic and impending crisis in Ukraine. In addition to volatile market condi- tions, future interest rate hikes have created constant unknowns in the global economy. The Morgan Stanley investment account may change over time, but rest assured, substantial growth over the last two years indicates that FOP has partnered with the right team.
