Cops and the Community
Chicago Police Officers ensured that another new year was ushered in safely during citywide celebrations and in the neigh- borhoods they patrol year-round. And 2020 began on a positive note, especially when it came to officers trying to build community relationships by taking time for children and giving thanks to those who show their appreciation for the police.

From foot patrols to the mounted unit, officers took to the streets in January as the city’s Wom- en’s March filled downtown with thousands of people for an event that went off safely despite chilly temperatures.
The law firm of Win- ston and Strawn showed its ap- preciation for first responders over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend by part- nering with Kusanya Cafe to offer treats to Seventh District officers as a thank- you for their dedica- tion and service to the community.
When school resumed after the holidays, so did visits in the 24th District from Officer Friendly, who stopped by to meet DeWitt Clinton Elemen- tary School students in mid-January.
With a little guidance from officers, bas- ketball teams from the 15th and 25th Dis- tricts met at Christ the King High School as part of the Chicago West- side Police and Youth Sports Conference.
20th District officers made the rounds to hand out plaques of appreciation to local businesses that offered kind wishes to the district’s person- nel on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
