Police Survivors rise to the occasion

More than 300 law enforcement officers and supporters enjoyed live entertainment from the Chicago Police Pipes and Drums and purchased raffle tickets to enter the grand prize drawing at the Third Annual Police Survivors “Phoenix Rising” Party on Feb. 18 at FOP Hall.
The party was a chance to raise awareness and funds for the Chicago Police Survivors group, affiliated with the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

James Gochee, Chicago Police Survivors media relations officer, relays the mission of the organi- zation to those in attendance.
“The mindset is to bury (feelings) and we have officers cop- ing with serious issues from alcohol dependency to suicide,” noted the Chicago Police Survivor Group Chairman Brian Warner. “Unfortunately, there are not a lot of resources out there so we try to gather the ones we can and set the tone that it’s OK to ask for help.”
On hand throughout the evening were Dr. Karen Koch, Psy.D, from the Adler School of Psychology; Chaplain Kimberly Lewis-Davis from the Chicago Police Chaplin's Min- istry; David Saucedo, a professional counselor from the Chicago Police Department and Dr. Carrie Steiner from the First Responders Wellness Center to demonstrate the type of resources the organization provides for officers in need.
Local businesses donated many of the prizes, including four box seats to attend a Chicago Cubs game during the 2016 season, restaurant gift certificates and wine baskets. A Chicago Police Survivors member won the grand prize - “A
