GENERAL PAINTING TECHNIQUES
When possible, work with the biggest brush you have available to fit into a specific area of the design.
Apply different values using a wet-on-wet technique, beginning with a mid-tone and then adding in your darks and highlights, then blending to create dimension.
 TERMS
Blending: Using light pressure on the brush, use short stokes to smooth out the edges where two different colors or values meet.
Highlights: To define edges and points of interest, Titanium White or a color mix with predominantly Titanium White in it will crisp up the image. These are known as highlights.
Gradient: Use blending to seamlessly transition between two different colors, or use blending to gradually thin down one color so that it allows the color beneath to show through.
Thin Down: Add some of the Transparent Genesis Medium to thin the colors of the paint and lower their opacity.
PREP
Lightly sand the hardwood to allow the paint a place to grip. Apply an even coat of Warm Grey to the wood with a small roller, rolling it on in one direction. Dampen the roller to begin with, especially if your paint is thicker; this will help loosen up the paint and provide a more even coat. Allow the first coat to dry completely before adding an additional coat. The second coat should be applied similarly, but in the opposite direction. Once four coats have been applied and fully dried, lightly sand the layers until they are smooth to the touch and wipe the dust off with a dry towel.
Trace the pattern onto your surface using a stylus and Titanium White graphite paper.
