SURFACE
Any symmetric surface that will be looked down upon will work. The sample is shown on a 9" square wooden box from my stash. Papier mâché boxes are available from a variety of online sources and craft stores. The angel lays best on a square or circle; she is not as appealing on a rectangle or oval.

This project can be a holiday box or a memory box. Simply change the holly to a tiny rose. Either way, our baby angel kneels with and offers a token in reverence befitting the season. Do you remember the first time your child gave you a wildflower?
PREPARATION
Seal box and basecoat top with Lamp Black. The bottom can be painted with almost any color from the palette or your decor. The angel is holding holly for Christmas or a rose for a memory box.
I do not shy away from black on a memory box. To me, it shows respect. But others prefer to keep the colors on a memory box lighter. A lighter color can be used for the bottom, but black is important to the top.
Tip to find the center of a circle: Trace the circular outline onto paper. Cut out and fold in half. Fold again, so you have fourths. Cut off the pointed center. The hole is the center.
Resize the pattern to fit your surface and transfer, using your favorite method. Be sure to align the wings so they are either along the diagonal (corner to corner) or parallel to the radius.
